Travelling to and in Kampala

A Missionary Reunion was held for the Uganda returned missionaries and their families on Saturday January 30. The expected crowd was approximately 150 and they certainly fed more than that! The cooking operation for the main meal was all outside as the kitchen facilities in the Kololo chapel are not designed for meal preparation. The catering staff brought their own utensils, pots, charcoal and portable charcoal stove. The cooking pots were huge and yet smaller ones are used in a home. They can be very hot and are used allot. Banana leaves are used to keep the heat in a pot so the meat can simmer or finish cooking. It is quite a sight to watch.

Travelling from Jinja to Kampala can be a challenge and a joy - it depends on the traffic. The drive through the Forest Preserve is beautiful and green. It is lush with trees and fields of sugarcane, tea, and banana trees. The biggest problem for the driver are the trucks that stall on the slight inclines, taxis that dart in and out of traffic, bicycles and pedestrians on the side of the road, motorcycles carrying passengers and traffic passing with little care for lanes or traffic rules.
