We attended Sunday meetings in the town of Bugembi. The rented chapel is located in an old school, with a partially open chapel. The building is located in a poor area, no paved roads but red dirt alleys. The red dust settles everywhere, so anything you touch or sit upon will leave a residue. Even in these humble surroundings there were 100 members at church. The District President announced during the meetings that the new building will be commenced in May on the property that has been purchased right beside the highway that intersects the town. It is a great location for a building as the congregation has outgrown the rented facility.
As I played the keyboard in the Primary, it was necessary to kneel on the floor of the tiny room overflowing with young children. They love to sing and were so enthusiastic and so curious of the instrument as they usually sing acapella. However, it was necessary to wash the dust off of my legs when we arrived back at our home in Jinja.
The red dust of Uganda settles everywhere and it is difficult to keep surfaces clean in our home for more than a few hours. Our shoes never look polished once we have been walking anywhere as they are coated with dust - but we look like we have been busy!
